As owner and principal broker of Mogen Real Estate Company, John has many years of experience representing sellers and buyers, landlord and tenants in real estate transactions.  Initially licensed in 1976 as a part of Spalding Associates, he enjoyed many years of mentoring by Al Spalding and Tom Deering of that well-known commercial and industrial brokerage.  Later, he became a partner and broker in Spalding/Mogen Company, which worked alongside Associates and focused on commercial and investment real estate management in addition to brokerage activities.

In early 1989, John formed Mogen Real Estate Company and established headquarters in downtown Akron.  In the course of its early history, the company moved to larger quarters and, after ten years, purchased its own building in Akron/Fairlawn, where the firm is today.  It has established itself as a real estate company that does business in Summit County and the contiguous counties and accepts consulting and representation assignments in other parts of Ohio.

By way of background on John Mogen, he holds two degrees from the University of Minnesota, the BA degree with a major in Architecture and the MA in administration.  Over the years, he also has taken additional courses at The University of Akron, The Ohio State University and Arizona State University, all on subjects related to commercial, industrial and investment real estate.

Early work experience included two years with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in Chicago, two years with a Cornell University/Ford Foundation consortium in Santiago, Chile, and several years with an Akron/Cleveland developer as Development Manager.  Among the duties in that position was to identify, negotiate for and purchase sites in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Florida for multifamily and hotel projects.

John has served on the Board of Directors of Akron General Medical Center and the Akron Chapter of the American Red Cross, where he also was part of the Executive Committee.  Other previous board affiliations include United Disability Service, the Greater Akron Musical Association (Akron Symphony), Sumner on Merriman and Summit County’s Social Services Advisory Board.  He is on the Investment Committee of the Akron Rotary Foundation and is Vice-Chairman of the Greater Akron Musical Association Foundation.  A long-time member of the local Board of Realtors, he has been selected as a Commercial-Industrial Broker of the Year and serves on the AABOR Finance and Budget Committee.  Since it was formed, the firm has been a member of the Greater Akron Chamber and has participated as an Investor.
