As
owner and principal broker of Mogen Real Estate Company, John has many
years of experience representing sellers and buyers, landlord and tenants
in real estate transactions. Initially
licensed in 1976 as a part of Spalding Associates, he enjoyed many years
of mentoring by Al Spalding and Tom Deering of that well-known commercial
and industrial brokerage. Later,
he became a partner and broker in Spalding/Mogen Company, which worked
alongside Associates and focused on commercial and investment real estate
management in addition to brokerage activities.
In
early 1989, John formed Mogen Real Estate Company and established
headquarters in downtown Akron. In
the course of its early history, the company moved to larger quarters and,
after ten years, purchased its own building in Akron/Fairlawn, where the
firm is today. It has
established itself as a real estate company that does business in Summit
County and the contiguous counties and accepts consulting and
representation assignments in other parts of Ohio.
By
way of background on John Mogen, he holds two degrees from the University
of Minnesota, the BA degree with a major in Architecture and the MA in
administration. Over the
years, he also has taken additional courses at The University of Akron,
The Ohio State University and Arizona State University, all on subjects
related to commercial, industrial and investment real estate.
Early
work experience included two years with the US Department of Housing and
Urban Development in Chicago, two years with a Cornell University/Ford
Foundation consortium in Santiago, Chile, and several years with an
Akron/Cleveland developer as Development Manager.
Among the duties in that position was to identify, negotiate for
and purchase sites in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Florida for
multifamily and hotel projects.
John
has served on the Board of Directors of Akron General Medical Center and
the Akron Chapter of the American Red Cross, where he also was part of the
Executive Committee. Other
previous board affiliations include United Disability Service, the Greater
Akron Musical Association (Akron Symphony), Sumner on Merriman and Summit
County’s Social Services Advisory Board.
He is on the Investment Committee of the Akron Rotary Foundation
and is Vice-Chairman of the Greater Akron Musical Association Foundation.
A long-time member of the local Board of Realtors, he has been
selected as a Commercial-Industrial Broker of the Year and serves on the
AABOR Finance and Budget Committee. Since
it was formed, the firm has been a member of the Greater Akron Chamber and
has participated as an Investor.
